How to prepare for medical exam

NOTE: Please schedule exam in the morning for best lab results. You must fast 10 hours prior to your insurance exam

Below are tips to get the best readings from the exam that will result in a lower cost of insurance. Remember to disclose all relevant health history information and have the attending doctor's information available (address, phone number, etc.).

48 Hours Prior to Exam

  • Stay off sodium to help reduce your blood pressure.

  • Do not smoke or chew tobacco for at least two days prior to the exam as this constricts artery walls and elevates blood pressure.

24 Hours Prior To Exam

  • No strenuous exercise for twenty-four hours prior to the exam

  • No alcohol for 48 hours before the exam

  • Get a good night's rest.

Day of Exam

  • Drink a couple of glasses of water one hour prior to the exam in order for a urine specimen to be taken.

Health Conditions Requiring Extra Attention:

High Cholesterol: Drink one small glass of red wine each evening a few days prior to the exam to help lower your cholesterol.

Hypertension: No stimulants. Take exam in the morning and continue your usual medications and relax prior to the exam.

Diabetes: Fast 4 - 6 hours before your exam
